After doing them each summer for the last 5 years, the trek has proved a winner. We are doing them again each summer now, June to August inclusive.
Enjoy the natural beauty of the
Cairngorm National Park in the company of our docile and friendly, halter-trained
reindeer. Join an exclusive party of trekkers, reindeer and experienced
reindeer herders on a half day walk across the lower slopes of the Cairngorms.
Reindeer walk slowly so the trek will be quite leisurely. There will be
rest stops for the reindeer on the way, and time will be spent at Utsi's
hut when the reindeer will be tethered and fed before returning home. Bring a light snack, as you may feel hungry when the reindeer are
getting their food! Good stout footwear and waterproof jacket essential.
The route will take us across open moorland with stunning
views of the Northern Corries, then down into the ancient Caledonian
Pinewood to the historic site of Utsi's hut which nestles in the forest.
Everyone will get an opportunity to lead their
own reindeer as we wind our way along mountain trails. After
resting the reindeer for a while at Utsi's hut, the trek will then return
up through the forest and over the open moor to join the main herd of reindeer.
There will then be an opportunity to join in with the daily feeding
of the herd.
Please note, routes may be changed at Herders discretion.
TREKS ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN THE WINTER MONTHS
