The Cairngorm Reindeer at Christmas
Over the months of November and December, our tame and tractable adult male reindeer go out and about on tour nationwide, increasing public awareness of the herd and raising funds to help to maintain their enviable lifestyle. Each individual reindeer will only do a couple of weeks work before returning back to their mountain home. We can provide teams of reindeer who are trained to pull sleighs and are relaxed and comfortable even in busy public situations. We also do promotional events and work in film studios. First Christmas Display
24th December 1953 – a pioneering Christmas display! Ever since Mikel Utsi took his first reindeer down into Aviemore in 1953, they have drawn a large amount of attention from the public. We have been touring with them each Christmas since 1990.
During October each year, visitors to Glenmore may be lucky enough to see us training our new Christmas reindeer in and around the village. By training the younger reindeer beside an old pro, they remain relaxed at all times and learn incredibly fast.
Out on tour
We tour right across the country in the six weeks running up to Christmas. Pictured is one of our reindeer Shekel posing for some pictures in Lancaster, and Rolo and Malteser pulling Santa on his sleigh in Newcastle.
“Finally, once our reindeer have finished their Christmas work, they are released back onto the mountains for the rest of the year. The luckiest reindeer in Britain!”
